The Liberty men's tennis team earned its first Big South Team Sportsmanship Award in 2013.
Liberty squads won a conference-best nine Big South Team Sportsmanship Awards during the 2012-13 athletic season, as announced today by the conference office. Liberty's team honors, as voted upon by conference student-athletes, came in men's golf, women's indoor track & field, men's outdoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's tennis, women's tennis and volleyball. It was volleyball's seventh Big South Team Sportsmanship Award in eight years, tying head coach Shane Pinder's Lady Flames with the VMI football team for the most honors of any conference team. Meanwhile, the Liberty men's golf team made it six consecutive years of winning or sharing the award. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Liberty men's and women's tennis squads each earned their first Big South Team Sportsmanship Awards in 2013. Liberty teams have now totaled 48 Big South Team Sportsmanship Awards since the award's inception in 2005-06, the most of any conference member. After winning the Big South Institutional Sportsmanship Award in 2011-12, Liberty finished a close second to VMI this year. The Keydets claimed their seventh Big South Institutional Sportsmanship Award in eight seasons.
