The Liberty Flames rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie the match at three, but the Campbell Camels came up with a win in the final singles contest to earn the 4-3 victory over the Flames on Wednesday afternoon at the Hershey Tennis Courts.

In defeat, Liberty drops to 10-7 (3-3 Big South) on the season, while Campbell improves to 11-5 (6-1 Big South).

The Flames captured the doubles point for the third straight match thanks to wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Liberty's Siim Tuus and Guillem Secanell lost for the first time this season, 8-6, to Steven Billington and Rik Van Gerwen, in the No. 3 spot. The Flames' Shea Thomas and Egon Samaai ousted Fernando Guillen and Adrien Rossingnon, 8-5, for their team-best 12th victory of the year. Liberty went on top 1-0 after Dillon Segur and Jorge Azuero notched an 8-6 win against David Clavera and Josep Baro.

The Camels collected the first three singles points of the afternoon. Billington knocked off Segur, 6-1, 6-0, Van Gerwen downed Stan Vaughan, 6-2, 6-1, and Guillen defeated Tuus, 6-3, 6-3.

Liberty responded with back-to-back wins in the No. 2 and No. 4 positions. Thomas earned his team-leading 13th victory of the year after ousting Rossingnon in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Azuero improved to 12-2 on the season with a 6-4, 6-3 win versus Clavera.

In the No. 5 spot, Baro outlasted Samaai in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, as the Camels escaped with the victory. 

"Although it was a disappointing loss for us today, there were a good results," commented Liberty assistant coach Ryan Fitzwilliam. "However, we need to persevere all the way through the finish line in order to finish the season on a high note."

Liberty continues Big South competition this weekend with a road match at Radford on Saturday and a home contest against conference leader Coastal Carolina on Sunday. Both matches are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
