Cody Bingham is in 20th place after day one of the Texas Relays decathlon competition.
In his collegiate decathlon debut, Liberty redshirt freshman Cody Bingham sits in 20th place after day one at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, with 3,339 points. Bingham is part of a star-studded field, which is currently topped by 2011 NCAA national runner-up Curtis Beach of Duke (4,219 points) and 2012 NCAA national runner-up Romain Martin of Texas-Arlington (3,985 points). Bingham opened his day with a personal-best 11.23 clocking in the 100-meter dash, aided by a 2.8 m/s tailwind. His Wednesday also included a 20-8 long jump, a 36-6.75 shot put, a 5-10 high jump clearance and a time of 52.28 seconds in the 400-meter dash. Bingham will begin the second day of the decathlon Thursday at 11 a.m. Eastern, with the 110-meter hurdles. Liberty's other athletes slated to compete at Mike A. Myers Stadium tomorrow include Ryan Smith in the men's hammer (4:30 p.m.), the freshman duo of Ansley Gebben and Brittney Webley in the women's 400-meter hurdles prelims (5:30 p.m.) and Andre Washington in the men's 400-meter hurdles prelims (6:15 p.m.).
