Liberty sophomore Brittany Yang has been tabbed the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced today by the conference. Yang earns recognition from her performance in matches played between Jan. 21-27.
"Brittany played outstanding tennis last weekend and is deserving of this honor," commented Liberty head coach Jeff Maren. "She has worked hard on her game and is determined to improve daily. I have full confidence in her and believe that she will continue to shine for us this season."
Liberty played just one match during the week, opening its dual-match season on Sunday against Appalachian State. Yang contributed a win in both her doubles and singles matches, despite the Lady Flames' 6-1 setback to the Mountaineers.
Yang and partner Jessie Boda downed the Mountaineers' tandem of Clare Cox and Jennifer Ansari, 8-6, claiming Liberty's lone doubles win of the match.
Competing in the No. 3 singles position, Yang delivered a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ansari for Liberty's lone point of the contest.
Yang and the rest of the Lady Flames will return to the court on Feb. 9 for their home opener against Charlotte. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at the Sports Racket, Liberty's indoor tennis facility.
