The Liberty Lady Flames lacrosse squad has been predicted to finish the 2013 season in fifth place according to the inaugural Big South women's lacrosse preseason poll. The poll was voted on by the conference's head coaches.

The Lady Flames will look to bounce back from a 3-14 season a year ago, while competing in the National Lacrosse Conference (NLC).

Head coach Regan Denham, who enters her fourth year at the helm of the Lady Flames, will look to blend a mix of experienced returners with a large number of underclassmen. Liberty returns eight starters from the 2012 squad, including team captains Chloe McIntosh, Amber Nichols, Jen Freymond and goalie Kristen Masullo. The 2013 Lady Flames welcome their largest freshman class in program history, with 10 student-athletes joining the roster this season.

High Point was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the 2013 Big South title, garnering seven out of eight first-place votes and 63 points. Davidson received the remaining first-place vote and 55 points.

Longwood was tabbed to finish third with 40 points, while Winthrop, competing in its inaugural season at the Division I level, was picked fourth with 36 points. Liberty (31), Coastal Carolina (28), Presbyterian College (23) and Campbell (12) finished fifth through eighth, in that order, to round out the poll.

Liberty begins the 2013 season on the road in DeLand, Fla. against Stetson on Feb. 10. The Lady Flames return for their home opener on Feb. 16 at the Liberty Lacrosse Field against Navy.

The 2013 Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship, which will feature the top four teams from the regular season, begins on Apr. 26 at the home site of the No. 1 seed. The winner of the two-day tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship.
