Following a record-setting year, Josh Woodrum has been selected the 2012 VaSID Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Quarterback Josh Woodrum was named the top offensive rookie in the state, while six Liberty players were named to the VaSID all-state football team, which was recently announced by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Woodrum was named the VaSID Offensive Rookie of the Year following a season where he was named the Big South Freshman of the Year and finished No. 13 in the final voting for the Jerry Rice Award (top FCS freshman in the country).

Woodrum set a freshman program record during his first year on the field for the Flames in 2012 with 1,963 total offensive yards. He also recorded the second most passing yards in a season by a Liberty freshman, completing 183-of-267 attempts for 1,966 yards and 11 touchdown passes.

Along with Woodrum's honor, Liberty had a half dozen players named to the VaSID all-state teams, with three players garnering first-team honors and three more securing a place on the all-state second-team listing.

Liberty's first-team honorees include running back Aldreakis Allen, offensive lineman Aaron Lundy and defensive back Brent Vinson.

Allen posted his first career 1,000-yard rushing season (1,019 yards and 10 touchdowns) thanks to the blocking efforts of Lundy and the rest of Liberty's offensive line. Vinson finished his days with Liberty in style, leading the Flames with a career-best 68 tackles (41 solo, 27 assisted).

The Flames three second-team selections were wide receiver Pat Kelly, defensive lineman Cory Freeman and linebacker Nick Sigmon.

Kelly became the fifth player in program history with 2,000 receiving yards (2,107) after leading the Flames in 2012 with 857 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Freeman ranked second on the team among defensive lineman with 31 tackles (16 solo, 15 assisted), while Sigmon led the team with 11 tackles for a loss and was third overall with 52 total stops (32 solo, 20 assisted).
