Liberty head lacrosse coach Regan Denham has announced Chloe McIntosh, Amber Nichols and Jen Freymond as team captains for the 2013 season.

"I'm really excited about the leadership that these three girls bring to our team," commented Denham. "They are a veteran group who have a lot of experience and are poised to lead us to a breakout season."

McIntosh, a redshirt senior, will serve as a captain for the fourth consecutive season. The defender is Liberty's career leader in ground balls (110) and is tied for first in games started (48). McIntosh finished second on the squad a year ago with 42 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, landing a spot on the NLC's second team all-conference squad. The Dallas, Texas, native was also named to the NLC's all-academic team in 2012.

"Being chosen as a team captain again is such an honor," stated McIntosh. "I've been very fortunate to be a part of this team from the very beginning and see the growth that has taken place over the last four years. I want to leave my mark on this team not only in the record books, but more importantly in the lives of the younger players as we continue to build this program."

Nichols has been chosen as a team captain for the first time. The junior will make the switch from playing in the midfield a year ago to low defense this season. Nichols will play a key role in helping the Lady Flames transition from defense to offense. The Finksburg, Md., native concluded the 2012 season tied for fourth on the team in points (22), fifth in goals (13), second in assists (9) and third in draw controls (21).

"The heart and self-motivation of the team is higher than it's ever been since I joined the team," explained Nichols. "I'm very excited to be a part of what is taking place on this squad and to represent it as one of its captains."

Freymond, a midfielder, will serve as a team captain for the first time. In 2012, the junior set single-season program records with 52 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers, concluding the year ranked ranked eighth in the country with 3.06 ground balls per game and 18th in caused turnovers per game with 1.76. The Lakefield, Ontario, native currently ranks second behind McIntosh on the program's all-time list in ground balls with 90.

"I'm looking forward to the season, because of the girls that surround me on this team," said Freymond. "With this team, it's not just about winning, but about coming together as a team and playing as a unit."

Liberty will kick off its 2013 season on Feb. 10 on the road against Stetson at 2 p.m. The Lady Flames' first home contest of the year is slated for Feb. 16 against defending Patriot League champion Navy at the Liberty Lacrosse Field.
