Ashley Rininger is now a two-time Big South Freshman of the Week this season.
After helping Liberty post a pair of dominating road wins, Ashley Rininger has been tabbed The Crons Brand Big South Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. Rininger, who previously earned the award on Dec. 3, averaged 12.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 3.5 bpg during Liberty's victories at Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina. The Lady Flames won the two contests by a combined 87 points and scored their most points ever during the Charleston Southern/Coastal Carolina "beach trip," 168. Rininger fashioned her first career double-double during Thursday's 92-33 triumph at Charleston Southern, consisting of 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Canton, Ohio native also blocked a career-high five shots against the Lady Buccaneers, the most blocks by a Lady Flame since Katie Feenstra rejected six Winthrop shots on Feb. 28, 2005. Two days later, Rininger helped Liberty race out to a 48-19 halftime lead at Coastal Carolina by scoring all 10 of her points during the first 20 minutes of play. She added six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots in the Lady Flames' 76-48 victory. For the season, Rininger ranks No. 15 in the Big South and third among freshmen with 6.3 rpg. She is also tied for 13th in the conference with 1.1 bpg. Rininger and the Lady Flames (13-5, 5-1 Big South) are now tied with Presbyterian College for first place in the Big South standings. Liberty will play its next three games at home, beginning with a rematch of the 2012 Big South Women's Basketball Championship title game against High Point, Thursday at 7 p.m.
