Liberty junior Josh McDougal, one of the pre-meet favorites, finished 27th at Monday's NCAA Division I National Cross Country Championship on a muddy LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. He earned All-American honors for the seventh time in his Liberty career and for the third-consecutive year in cross country, completing the 10K course in 31:34.

Junior Josh McDougal has won a lot of cross country races during his three years at Liberty; 18 to be exact. At 1:15 p.m. on Monday, he will get the chance to capture the one title that has eluded him so far, when he competes at the NCAA Division I National Cross Country Championship in Terre Haute, Ind.

Liberty junior Josh McDougal finished second at Saturday's NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Cross Country Championship, helping the Flames' men's cross country team place seventh. The Lady Flames, led by Piper Newby's 29th-place effort, ended up 12th at the event held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.

Just days after the Liberty men's and women's cross country teams swept the Big South Championships for the first time since 1992, both squads were listed in this week's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Regional polls for the first time this season. The men's team is rated sixth, while the women are 10th.
