The Liberty men's track and field team captured a pair of event titles Saturday at the IC4A Championships, building its lead to 32 points entering the final day of competition at Princeton's William Weaver Track & Field Stadium. The Lady Flames reside in fifth place in the ECAC Championships, just seven-and-a-half points out of first.

Less than a half hour after winning the IC4A 5,000-meter title, Liberty junior Josh McDougal came back to win the 10,000-meter event as well, becoming the first runner to sweep the two longest events at the meet since 1971. His efforts helped the Flames land in first place at the end of Friday's opening day of competition at Princeton's William Weaver Track & Field Stadium, in Princeton, N.J. Meanwhile, the Lady Flames sit in fourth place at the ECAC Championships.

Track and field student-athlete Arlene Zelinskas was honored today at Liberty University's Convocation service, as she was named the 2007 Rock Royer/Mac Rivera Award winner, the University's highest athletics honor.

For the second consecutive week, a Liberty women's track athlete has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week. This week's honoree is sophomore Rebekah Ricksecker, who clocked a personal-best 800-meter time at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier, last Thursday.
The Liberty men's and women's track and field teams, which both captured Big South championships this spring, are getting ready for their second conference meet of the season. The Flames will compete in the 131st IC4A Championships and the Lady Flames will participate in the 24th ECAC Championships, which will be held concurrently, Friday through Sunday, at Princeton's William Weaver Track & Field Stadium, in Princeton, N.J.

Liberty junior Jennifer Ward finished fourth in the heptathlon, the final three events of which were contested Friday afternoon at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex, wrapping up the Liberty Twilight Qualifier.

Liberty's men's and women's throwing corps excelled at Thursday's Liberty Twilight Qualifier at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex in spite of cold, wet and windy conditions which hampered the competition as a whole. The Flames and Lady Flames combined to win six of the seven throwing events contested, and junior Clendon Henderson set a facility record in the men's discus.

Liberty has earned the Big South Conference's Team Sportsmanship Award for women's indoor track and field, it was announced today by Big South Commissioner Kyle B. Kallander. The announcement comes one day after the Liberty men's indoor track team shared the same honor with Charleston Southern.
