For the first time since 2001, Liberty University will play host to the New Balance Big South Conference Track & Field Championships Presented by UCS. The three-day event is scheduled to start Thursday at noon at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.

Josh McDougal's recent standout performances on the track have not only garnered national attention for himself, but also for the entire Liberty Flames men's track and field team. The Liberty men's squad is tied for 25th in the most recent Trackwire national rankings, and McDougal has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

Less than two weeks after running a sub-4:00 mile, Liberty junior Josh McDougal blazed to a 13:20.43 clocking in the 5,000-meter final at the Mt. SAC Relays, late Friday night at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif. His time, the fastest by a collegiate performer this season, puts McDougal at No. 5 all-time in the event among collegiate runners.

Several Liberty men's and women's track and field athletes braved unseasonably cool weather conditions and got one final tune-up for this coming week's Big South Championships, Saturday in the Lynchburg College Track & Field Classic at newly renovated Shellenberger Field. Sophomore Rebekah Ricksecker was able to run the fastest 800-meter time by a Big South athlete this season, 2:13.33, at the meet.

For the third time in the last four weeks, a Liberty athlete has won the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week award. This week's winner is junior Clendon Henderson, who set a new Big South record in the discus, Friday at the Texas Relays.

Liberty sophomore Andrea Beckles recorded a trio of top four finishes in the sprinting events, Saturday at the North Carolina A&T Aggie Relays in Greensboro, N.C. On the men's side, freshman Elliot Galeone was the Flames' lone champion of the day, taking home the javelin title.

Liberty sophomore Ashley Osborne raced to a school-record 16:53.89 effort in the 5,000 meters at Friday's Duke ASICS Invitational in Durham, N.C. She cut over a minute off her previous best and placed eighth in the event.

Liberty junior Clendon Henderson finished third with a new Liberty and Big South record throw in the discus and ended up fifth in the shot put to highlight a busy Friday afternoon at the 80th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. Classmate Jon Hart added a third-place shot put finish on a successful day for the Flames' throwing corps.
