2014 Football Opponent Preview: Presbyterian
In addition to its position previews and player features, LibertyFlames.com will take a look at each of Liberty's 2014 Big South football opponents during the month of August.
During the opponent series, the website will bring you audio from the head coach of each football program, as LFSN's Nick Pierce had a chance to talk with them during Big South Football Media Day in July.
The series continues today with a look at the Presbyterian Blue Hose, who were predicted to finish in sixth place in the 2014 Big South Football Preseason Poll released in July.
The Blue Hose are coming off a 3-8 campaign in 2013 where they finished league play with a 1-4 mark with their lone Division I victory coming against former Big South member VMI. The victory over the Keydets gave Presbyterian College its fourth Big South win in six seasons under head football coach Harold Nichols.
Presbyterian College returns 17 starters from last season (six offense, seven defense and four specialists), including Big South second-team all-conference wide receiver Tobi Antigha. The rising senior was fifth in the Big South last season with six touchdown receptions and fourth in the league with 764 receiving yards.
The Blue Hose return four of their top five tacklers from 2013, along with Phil Steele Freshman All-American Ugonna Akon, a rookie defensive lineman who finished second in the conference with 14.0 tackles for a loss.
The Flames will begin the month of November in Clinton, S.C., where they will face Presbyterian on Nov. 1 at Bailey Memorial Stadium. Last time Liberty faced the Blue Hose on their home turf, the Flames set a program record with 692 total offensive yards in a 56-7 victory on Oct. 13, 2012.
LibertyFlames.com will continue its Big South opponent preview tomorrow when the website takes a look at Big South newcomer Monmouth.
