EdS in Curriculum & Instruction: Elementary Education
The School of Education through Liberty University Online offers several programs at the post-graduate level. The Education Specialist program prepares candidates to be competent, effective leaders with a Christian worldview who will model high standards and assume a leadership role in the field of education. Leaders in the field of education are seen as those who assume a facilitating role in accomplishing the goals and objectives of an education system, whether it be as a teacher, superintendent, principal, curriculum director, instructional supervisor, or university administrator.
Certain prerequisites may be required by Liberty University’s School of Education for those seeking to become candidates in the postgraduate program, specifically from candidates with a non-educational undergraduate background or those who meet the equivalent of an academic major in a liberal arts area.
Licensure options are available with the completion of additional requirements.
- General Information
- Residential Intensives: EDUC 741 is required for candidates adding a licensure endorsement.
- Field Experiences: EDUC 703.
- Field Experiences within EDUC 740 and 742 are required for candidates adding a licensure endorsement.
- Elective courses may also require field experiences.
- Research Requirement: EDUC 606 – Tests and Measurements
- EDUC 812 may only be taken by candidates who have been accepted into the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program.
- Capstone: EDUC 798
- This course must be taken in the final semester. EDUC 798 is not transferrable into the Ed.D. program.
- 3.0 GPA

The mission of the School of Education at Liberty University is to develop competent professionals with a biblical worldview for Christian, public, and private schools. The faculty of the School of Education has delineated the dispositions that must be observable in each candidate of our programs at all levels:

Degree Completion Plan and Course Sequencing Guide
Candidates may request to transfer up to 6 post-graduate or doctoral credit hours into the Ed.S. program. Capstones, intensives, and most courses that require field experience are not eligible to be transferred. Courses must not be older than 5 years.
The School of Education strives to produce educators who model high standards before their peers. In keeping with this mission, candidates will complete a variety of field experiences in the K–12 school system as part of his/her program. Background checks have become a requirement in our partnerships with the school system. Out of respect for this, we require all candidates to complete a background check through CastleBranch.
Candidates may pursue an initial teaching license, add-on, or advanced licensure endorsement by completing additional courses, exams, and other state-approved requirements.
