Jay Kranda, Online Campus Pastor – Saddleback Church

Our first webinar addresses the central question of whether or not we should be promoting digital and virtual forms of church experience when traditional Christian theology places such a strong emphasis upon the gathered community in a common physical space. Dr. Steve Lowe has written and spoken about this issue and is helping graduate students prepare and equip students to minister in online digital contexts.

Dr. Phil Cooke is the only Hollywood producer with a Ph.D. in theology. Phil is a former student of Dr. Steve Lowe who has served in the film industry in Hollywood for more than thirty years. He’s produced TV and film programming in more than 60 countries around the world, and in the process, been shot at, survived two military coups, fallen out of a helicopter, and in Africa, been threatened with prison. And during that time – through his company Cooke Media Group in Los Angeles, California – he’s helped some of the largest Christian and nonprofit organizations in the world use the media to tell their story in a changing, disrupted culture.

As Director of Digital Church Planting, Jeff works with churches across the country helping them do ministry, do discipleship, do church, online.  Through his website, THECHURCH.DIGITAL he resources churches through podcasts, blogs, and other digital media towards this end. Rather than helping churches create consumers online, Jeff advocates for churches to create disciple-makers online, helping churches shift to a phygital (physical + digital) philosophy of discipleship. What does engagement really mean online? What does discipleship online look like? What does a church look for in a Digital Pastor? These and other questions will be answered as Jeff shares the insights he has gained doing church ministry online.

Jay Kranda is the “Teaching Evangelist of Online Church.” His many online resources are a rich and curated bundle of knowledge and insights gleaned from ten years as the online pastor for Saddleback Church in California. He is also co-host of Social Media Church Podcast, author of Social Media Made Easy: Inexpensive Online Marketing Guide for Non-Profits, and a regular contributor to onlinechurchleaders.com, a resource that helps churches launch their online platforms. His easy-going California personality makes him an accessible source of information about what it takes to start and sustain online church ministry.
