Module Introduction

Biosocial Development in the First Two Years of Life

Section 1 Introduction - We know that infants grow very quickly.  In fact, children grow more quickly during the first three years of life than at any other stage of development.  While science and experience has provided a wealth of information about the physical development of children, many questions remain.  How does the growth process take place?  Are the survival reflexes present at birth a happy accident of evolutionary progress or were they put in place by a wise Creator?  Why are the progression of skills so logical and orderly?  In this section we will explore the answers currently available, then also examine the mysteries that remain.  As we learn more about the developmental milestones for the first two years of life, we will begin to understand the wisdom of the ancient writer who penned the words, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
