Rock climbers land five top-six finishes at semester’s first collegiate competition
Ten members of Liberty University’s rock climbing team opened the spring competition schedule with their first multi-discipline event of the season, Saturday at The Gravity Vault in Voorhees, N.J.
First-year Head Coach Tyler Campbell brought a travel squad that included five men’s and five women’s climbers and a handful of them placed in the top six.

“The climbers were excited to compete this weekend in our first multi-discipline competition of the season,” Campbell said. “They were able to choose if they wanted to compete in Bouldering, Lead/Top Rope, or both. Since this was our first opportunity to compete in the Lead/Top Rope discipline, I was very proud that we had a male and female athlete place. Most of our athletes chose to compete in both disciplines and half of them finished well in at least one discipline.”
In the Women’s Bouldering event, Lady Flames sophomore Arabella King placed third, followed by senior teammate Gwen Mars, who finished fourth. Freshman Dylan Reese captured fifth place in the Men’s Bouldering competition.
Meanwhile, senior Kyler Gilbert came in fourth place in the Men’s Lead/Top Rope division and sophomore Megan Dorsey landed in sixth in the Women’s Lead/Top Rope event.
“I am proud of the team’s performance up until this point of the season and I’m excited as we look to additional post-season competitions,” Campbell said. “The athletes have trained hard all season and are continuing to work diligently as we look to (Mid-Atlantic) Divisionals at the end of March and possibly (USA Climbing Collegiate) Nationals in April.”
