    Liberty University’s racquetball team took a deep squad to its fourth and final Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Racquetball Conference (MACRC) tournament of the season and had several strong showings, last Friday through Sunday at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.

    The event drew 90 players from seven schools who competed in more than 150 matches.

    The Flames swept the top positions in the men’s singles Red bracket, with Daniel Seibler defeating junior teammate Seth Jordan in Division 1-2 and freshman Spensir Heath winning the Division 3 title and freshman Garrison Walker ousting graduate teammate Paul Miller in the third-place match.

    Miller and junior Christian Tinsley paired up to place runner-up in the Red Division 3 doubles competition while Jordan and Seibler combined to win the White bracket Division 1-2 doubles crown.

    Senior Paul Messerly took third in Division 1-2 of the Blue bracket and sophomore Jaron Proehl finished runner-up and Tinsley came in fourth in Division 3 of the White bracket. Senior Alvaro Jaramillo came in fourth in Division 3 and junior Jesse Gauldin finished fourth in Division 4 of the Gold bracket. 

    The duo of Gauldin and sophomore John Vence landed in second place in the Gold Division 4 doubles bracket.

    Jaramillo and Proehl teamed up to finish runner-up and Heath and Walker came in fourth in the Blue Division 3 doubles competition and junior Jacob Simrell assisted Messerly for a fourth-place finish in the Red Division 1-2 doubles draw.

    Senior Laura Demetros led the Lady Flames with her White bracket Division 1-2 title, edging sophomore teammate Julie Richards in the final. Janelle Carroll finished fourth in Division 2 of the Gold bracket, while fellow Liberty graduate Stephanie Schuler earned a runner-up showing in Red Division 2 and freshman Danielle Pearson placed third in Gold Division 3-4.

    Caroline Morse defeated fellow junior teammate Kaitlin LoForti in the Red Division 3-4 championship match and sophomore Lindsey Marston finished runner-up in the Blue Division 3-4 final.

    Carroll and Schuler took third in the Division 2 doubles playoff and Demetros and Richards paired up for fifth place. In Division 3-4 doubles, Morse and Loforti teamed up to capture first place while Marston and Pearson finished fifth.

    Flames Assistant Coach Shawn Furman won the alumni/coaches/faculty singles division and joined forces with Liberty Head Coach Danny Rodriguez to claim the doubles championship.
