Lady Flames blank NCAA DIII Chatham 10-0 outside of Pittsburgh
Liberty University’s ACHA Division I women’s hockey team posted another lopsided win against an NCAA Division III opponent on Saturday, shutting out Chatham University, 10-0, in the Pittsburgh Ice Arena in New Kensington, Pa., one night after neutralizing Neumann University in a suburb of Philadelphia, 11-0.
The Fussy sisters, sophomore forward Brielle (two goals) and junior linemate Brityn (one), combined for a hat trick, with both scoring in a five-goal first period, and sophomore forward Haley Battles added two of Liberty’s four goals in the second to fuel the Lady Flames’ attack. Sophomore forward Zosia Adamek, junior forward Rianna Spanier, and graduate forward Shelby Bradford added single goals in the first period before sophomore forwards Madison Glynn and Isabella Hervert complemented Battles with two goals in the second period and Brielle Fussy netted her second goal for the lone score in the third.
Liberty outshot the Cougars, 37-12, and junior goalie Amanda Storey chalked up 12 saves to post her fourth shutout in as many starts, one night after freshman Alex Keith recorded her second shutout.
The four-time-defending ACHA DI national champion Lady Flames improved to 8-0 and extended their winning streak to 48 games. Liberty has next weekend off before returning to the LaHaye Ice Center to host the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (4-1-1) — which won three ACHA DI national titles in a span of four years from 2014-17 — on Nov. 4 at 2:30 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m.
