Flames claim three titles at third MACRC tournament
Liberty University's racquetball team turned in another strong showing against a larger field in the third of four Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Racquetball Conference (MACRC) tournaments, which drew 70 players from 16 schools in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., to The Sports Racket over the weekend of Nov. 13-15.
Flames junior Pablo Jaramillo captured the Division 2 men's singles title and teamed up with Blue Ridge Community College's Max Nunez to win the Division 1-2 doubles bracket, defeating Liberty seniors David Schreck and Eric Piering in the final.
Schreck finished third and Piering fourth in the Division 1 men's singles bracket.
Senior Ben Musick and junior Kolton White joined forces to place second in the men's doubles Division 4 Gold bracket. In Division 3 Red doubles play, Flames sophomores Jacob Simrell and Seth Jordan teamed up to place third.
Simrell finished third in the Division 3 Red and Jordan was fourth in the Division 3 Blue men's singles draws.
Sophomore Sadie Abramowicz, Liberty's only female player competing in this tournament, placed fourth in Division 1-2 women's singles.
In the alumni/coaches competition, former Flames player and current Assistant Coach Shawn Furman won the men's singles bracket while Liberty Head Coach Danny Rodriguez placed third.
The Flames will travel to the fourth and final MACRC tournament hosted by the University of North Carolina, Jan. 29-31 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
