    All five riders from Liberty University’s Hunt Seat equestrian team that qualified for Sunday’s Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Region 4 Championships at three-time defending champion Sweet Briar College placed in the top five individually.

    The Lady Flames were led by senior Nadia Cooper, the Region 4 High Point Rider who will represent the region in the Cacchione Cup Class at the IHSA Zone 4 Finals set for April 9 at the St. Andrews (N.C.) Equestrian Center in Laurinburg, N.C. At Sweet Briar, she placed first in Open Equitation on the Flat and third in Open Fences.

    Meanwhile, senior Juliana Gorena finished first in Limit Equitation on the Flat and third in Limit Fences.

    Freshman Ellie Bruss also placed third in Novice Equitation on the Flat, sophomore Maggie Saunders finished fourth in Open Equitation on the Flat, and senior Carly Woods placed fifth in Limit Equitation on the Flat.

    Junior Briley Boan won the Lauren Burns Sportsmanship Award for the region, based on rider nominations from across the region and voted on by all the participating programs’ coaches.

    This weekend, Liberty’s Western riding team will host two IHSA Region 4 events at the Liberty Equestrian Center, with shows starting Saturday at noon and Sunday at 11 a.m.
