Liberty University’s ACHA Division II men’s hockey team is one of three of the top four ranked programs in the nation in the St. Louis area for this weekend’s Lindenwood Showcase. The round-robin event is being hosted by the Lions at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo., the practice facility for the NHL’s St. Louis Blues. It will give the Flames (11-1) a preview of what the March 14-18 National Championships might hold at the same venue.

“We’re ranked No. 2 in the Southeast (Region behind North Carolina State) and No. 3 overall (in the nation), the University of Mary is No. 1 in the West, and Lindenwood is No. 1 in the Central (and the nation),” Flames Head Coach Ben Hughes said.

On Friday at 3:30 p.m., Liberty will face Mary for the fourth time this season, after winning two of three at the LaHaye Ice Center (LIC) in Lynchburg, Va., from Oct. 14-16.

The Flames will then take on Davenport, ranked No. 15 in the Central Region, on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. EST before concluding the showcase on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. EST by challenging Lindenwood at 3:30 p.m. EST, in the Centene Center’s outdoor rink. Games will be streamed live on the Lindenwood website.

After traveling to Philadelphia to take on Drexel on Dec. 3-4, Liberty will conclude fall semester play by welcoming Rider to the LIC on Dec. 10-11. The Flames will open 2022 with a home-and-home series against NC State — Jan. 7 in Raleigh, N.C., and Jan. 8 in Lynchburg — in a showdown between the Southeast Region’s Nos. 1 and 2 teams.
