Outstanding student-athletes, coaches, and spiritual leaders in Liberty’s Club Sports department were recognized at Wednesday night’s annual gala held in the Center for Music and Worship Concert Hall.
To qualify for the May 7-8 Atlantic Coast Regional Championships at the Smith River Sports Complex in Axton, Va., Liberty needs a top-five finish out of eight teams in ultra-competitive Virginia.
Liberty upset fifth-ranked Pennsylvania on Saturday only to lose the rematch in the first round of Sunday's playoffs, when injuries to three of its starters, all handlers, threw off the Flames' game.
After being eliminated in the fall Virginia Conference Championships, the Flames return with renewed focus, purpose heading into this weekend's first of potentially four tournaments in Axton, Va.
More than 100 current and former players turned out for the weekend tournament at the Liberty Mountain Intramural Complex with the alumni and alumna teams edging the Flames and Lady Flames on Sunday.
