Liberty Flames Club announces membership in every U.S. state

Flames Nation stretches far beyond simply the Hill City. The Flames Club, Liberty’s organization contributing to student athletes all over campus, recently announced it now has a member from every state, with New Mexico being the last and final state to be represented.

For many students around campus, they hear about the Flames Club but might not fully understand what it is the club does. Those who join the Flames Club receive much more than the exclusive membership ticket and parking benefits. They also obtain the opportunity to ensure that more than 550 student athletes have the financial ability to attend Liberty.

The average cost for a student athlete is just above $55,200. When donating to the Flames Club, you support all athletes across 20 NCAA D1 teams, whether it be Durrell Johnson, McKinley Burkett or Kyle Rhode. These donations help finance the scholarships, nutrition and any other college fees the athletes need to have covered.

In addition, the Flames Club also has a hand in building and maintaining the multiple training facilities and stadiums around campus.

“We have a branch of fundraising called legacy giving, where people can put their names our facilities, whether that’s something big like putting your name on the football stadium, or something smaller like putting your name on a locker to honor a former teammate,” Drew Boykin, assistant athletic director for annual giving, said. “That money goes into a capital giving campaign that helps fund maintenance and upgrades for all of our facilities. We try to spread it out because a lot of people want their name on the football stadium and we don’t want to have all that money just go right into football, so it spreads across all our sports development and facilities.”

The Flames Club is currently hosting about 4,800 members, including the student Flames Club. The organization hopes to expand that number to 5,000 members by June 1. According to Boykin, 4,800 members already sets the record for all-time members.

“We’re trying to hit that even mark of 5,000,” she said. “And with us having 50 states, it’s a cool thing for us because we truly are (the) Flames Nation, where every single state has a Flames Club member.”

Membership starts at just $75, and to join the Flames Club, go to www.libertyflamesclub.org/jointoday.
