Liberty Women’s Lacrosse Cap’s Off Weekend With 22-9 Victory Over Stetson Hatters

Liberty women’s lacrosse made quick work of Stetson April 9, beating the Hatters 22-9.

Midfielder Mackenzie Lehman, Liberty’s leading scorer, led the pack once again with six goals. Attacker Jordan Shieve wasn’t too far behind with four goals and three assists of her own.

“We did a really good job of sharing the ball,” Head Coach Kelly Nangle said. “We had been talking a lot about that in practice this week and moving the ball and just seeing the different options on the field.”

The Lady Flames dominated the game from start to finish, scoring 10 goals in the first quarter alone. They had 42 shots on the goal and shot 52% in the game.

“We did a really good job of what we emphasized in practice offensively and, you know, just creating opportunities for each other,” Nangle said.

Liberty showcased elite ball control throughout the game, limiting Stetson to just 28 shots.

“They (Stetson) can be good in transition, and we just wanted to try and limit their opportunities,” Nangle said. “We wanted to be in our riot sets, which I feel like we did a good job of doing that and just limiting their chances in transition.”

With the win, Liberty improved to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in ASUN play. This is the second win in a row for the Lady Flames and their fourth win out of their last five.

Liberty will head back on the road and travel to Harrisonburg to play JMU in a non-conference matchup April 13.

“We just have to keep showing up to practice and be willing to work on the things that we need to get better at, and I think if we can continue to do that, we’re going to keep improving through each game, and we should be in a good spot by the end of the season,” Nangle said.
