Ukraine Crisis: America Should Not Get Involved

The past few weeks have been very eventful to say the least. According to the New York Times,  protests over COVID-19-related mandates sweep nations and according to Market Price, prices continue to rise for Americans. An all too familiar sound is starting to be heard over the horizon. As tensions continue to rise between Russia and Ukraine, the beat of war drums is beginning to grow louder and louder.

As of now, the brooding conflict between Russia and Ukraine has remained between those two countries. The United States should not even consider touching this issue.

According to NBC News, the Biden administration is weighing the option of sending thousands of American troops to Ukraine in response to increasing aggravations by Russia, including the amassing of Russian troops along the border. Tensions between the two nations have arguably been present since the fall of the Soviet Union, but things have heightened just in the last decade. According to the New York Times, in 2014, Russia annexed the region of Crimea, a small peninsula on the northern edge of the Black Sea.

The worldwide response was typical in the form of sanctions and a slap on Vladimir Putin’s wrist from the Obama administration. Now the tension is once again rising and this time, it does not seem like sanctions are going to solve the issue. With an increasing American troop presence, it seems Biden is moving towards a possible war with Russia.

A war of this magnitude in this region of the world would be the wrong move to make. Americans have only recently gotten out of one war and now is not the time to be looking for another. In August, Americans saw the greatest foreign policy blunder in recent history with the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The Biden administration left billions of dollars’ worth of equipment, thousands of classified documents and hundreds of American citizens and allies behind to the whims of the Taliban.

According to Five Thirty Eight, Biden has rapidly decreasing poll numbers, rising inflation and an upcoming midterm election that looks to be favoring Republicans. The Biden administration is now looking to Eastern Europe as a possible solution, one that will cost thousands of American lives.

America should not get involved in the current conflict.  Ever since the end of World War II, the image of the United States as the world police officer has led us into some of the most costly and embarrassing conflicts in our nation’s history. While the Russians are at odds with American values and interests, they have not yet attacked us.

We are tired of being embarrassed in conflicts that are “assured victories” in the eyes of establishment bureaucrats. The American people are tired of these wars. Mr. President, no new wars for the sake of falling poll numbers.
