New Small Business Offers Quick Bite for Busy Patrons

Looking for diverse food options for when you are off campus?

If you like to shop small businesses, Burg Burritos, a small burrito shop on 1103 Church St. in downtown Lynchburg, is the perfect destination to enjoy some good food and try some interesting burrito combinations.

The store opened Sept. 10, taking over the space where popular crepe bakery Batter Bar used to be located. Created and owned by Stephanie Atkinson, Burg Burritos is a counter service restaurant next to Atkinson’s other two businesses, Live Trendy or Die and Gilded.

Atkinson desired for the shop to be suited for people on the go, including busy customers who prefer to order online and professionals who can come in on their lunch break.

“We try to keep a 10-minute ticket time,” Atkinson said. “We offer a metropolitan experience to people who are busy working or living downtown.”

The establishment is a small, cozy room that is an extension of Atkinson’s other two stores. Due to Burg Burrito’s small size, it is not feasible for many people to be seated and dine-in, but that does not stop the lunch rush.

Atkinson chose burritos because they are fast, easy to make and can be made in many different ways, making them a good choice for customers with dietary restrictions.

“My one manager is gluten-free, and my other manager is vegetarian, so in order for us to get lunch we would have to go to two different places. We wanted to do something that we could all do together,” Atkinson said.

She originally considered sandwiches as a possible specialty, but it was eventually decided that tortillas are easier to work with than bread — making burritos the more ideal option with many possibilities.

This small shop offers a limited menu of breakfast burritos, such as The Waffle Chicken burrito and The Break, which has bacon or sausage with scrambled eggs, tater tots, Monterrey cheese, sliced avocado and salsa verde. Lunch and dinner options are offered as well, including The Piggy Mac, a burrito featuring carnitas with queso mac and cheese, seasoned rice, black beans, shredded red cabbage and habanera BBQ sauce.

Besides burritos, Burg Burritos also offers salsa and chips made in-house.

Atkinson recommends the vegetarian options as well as the Phanatic burrito, which has shaved ribeye with provolone cheese, peppers and onions, seasoned rice and black beans.

“I’m originally from the Philadelphia area, and the people really seemed to like it, even though it was a limited thing, so we decided to keep it around,” Atkinson said.

The business is closed on Mondays but open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, the shop is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday brunch is available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
