FACS fashion show director and designers look forward to show March 28

After nine months of brainstorming, designing and stitching, fashion designers are adding the finishing touches to the garments that will steal the show at the 14th annual FACS Fashion Show, March 28.

Fashion show director Jessica Suiter looks forward to seeing all the elements come together.

“My favorite part of the show is watching so many peoples’ hard work for the past nine months come to fruition in such a huge way,” Suiter said. “It is a rare experience to be a part of something like this show.”

As the director, Suiter has worked on putting this event together since last spring. She is responsible for partnering with the LU Marketing and Construction teams to coordinate the advertising materials and set designs for the event. She also conceptualized the theme of “Fashion Reimagined.”

Student designers and models have been diligently working for months to make their wildest dreams come to life on the runway. The designs will be made using 50% recycled materials to promote sustainability.

“I am really inspired by sustainability and where our clothes are coming from and who is making the clothes,” Suiter said. “The movie ‘The True Cost,’ shown by our faculty advisor, really spoke to me and shows the tragedies surrounding true fashion.”

Senior fashion merchandising major Farra Kiracofe is excited to feature her garment made entirely of men’s ties at her first fashion show.

“I am most excited to finally see my garment on the runway,” Kiracofe said. “It feels so great to be done and to have the show coming up so soon. When I finished my garment I couldn’t stop smiling. I was so happy to be done after working so hard for months.”

This year, the event will be held in the School of Music Concert Hall for the first time to give the show a more professional, grand feel.

The fashion show will partner with the charity Habitat for Humanity, which will receive a portion of the ticket sales. Local vendors will also participate in a silent auction to raise money in support of the charity.

The fashion show will take place Saturday, March 28, at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at tickets.liberty.edu. under University Events.
