SGA class officer election results

2018-2019 Class Officers Elected

 

The results are in and Liberty University’s 2018-2019 new class officers have been elected. The results and winners are as follows:

 

Freshmen:  P- Alexa Whaley VP- Karsyn Foster: 362 votes

 

Sophomore:  P-  Thomas Hummel VP- Stephen Hawley:  517 votes

 

Junior:  P-  Timothy Murcek, VP- Evan Gaul (ran unopposed) 88 votes

 

Senior–  P- Addyson Garner VP- Kayla Coghlan 230 votes

 

There was a total of 2,201 votes with 30 write-ins.

Unanimously, the freshly elected officers said they are very excited and honored to have won.

“I am so excited. I am so humbled. I am just in awe right now. I am just so excited to serve this school and really serve God in all this,” said freshmen Vice President Karsyn Foster.

Sophomore class President Thomas Hummel gave credit to the campaign volunteers.

“I feel really relieved,” Hummel said.  It was a lot of work and volunteers did great today. We just had a lot of fun doing this campaign.

The class officers have the responsibility of representing their class well and reporting concerns the class may have, the Liberty Class Officer website states.

Evan Gaul, junior class vice president said to the junior class, “We are just getting ready to have a lot of fun this year. We want to have a lot of good events that will be fun, a lot of spiritual events that will be really renewing and refreshing.” Gaul ran unopposed with running mate Tim Murcek.

Senior Class Vice President Kayla Coghlan explained her enthusiasm concerning the win.

“It is honestly pretty incredible,” Coghlan said. “We had a great campaign, an awesome team, and a great platform that we could really stand behind. Great competition too, our teammates and our competition were phenomenal, and we couldn’t imagine going up against anyone else.”

The students said they campaigned hard Tuesday and Wednesday, and that the hard work paid off.

The Liberty University Student Government Association Election Rules and Procedures lists the requirements candidates must meet before running for office. Candidates must, “maintain good academic standing according to the Academic Policy Handbook, must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, must not have received any single offense greater than 12 points according to the Student Honor Code within the past two semesters at the time of their application,” the procedures Book states.

The swearing in of these newly elected class officers will take place on Monday, September 23, 2018, at 7 p.m.
