LU Send faces new semester

LU Send previews trips lined up for the semester that promise enrichment

LU Send is packing up and kicking off the school year with an emphasis on trips designed to enrich every aspect of education at Liberty University.

LU Send has planned several trips for this fall as well.

Both LU Send Executive Director David Welch and LU Send Trip Coordinator Weston Martin expressed excitement about the School of Divinity’s trip to Germany, Switzerland and France.

This trip over Thanksgiving break celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Reformation by helping students trace the paths of the reformers.

“This is a key time for the Reformation and a key time for the School of Divinity to lead this trip,” Martin said.

LU Send has also been busy planning a new kind of trip.

“LU Send has been working to create more creative itineraries that allow multiple disciplines to engage in a culture or country on the same trip,” Welch said.

Welch added that although such trips require extra planning, the work is worth it.

Over Thanksgiving break, the School of Engineering, the School of Divinity and the Department of Public and Community Health are collectively taking students to Israel.

Welch gave several reasons why students should take advantage of the opportunities LU Send offers.

He pointed out that many employers are looking for people who have rounded out their education and experience by receiving some of both overseas.

Welch said that LU Send trips can help students decide if they want to study abroad or seek an internship in a foreign country.

According to Welch, LU Send trips help students learn to interact with other cultures, a quality Martin said is key for both employees and Christians.

“It showcases a strong influence on who you are in the workplace but also who you are as a child of God and as an ambassador among the nations,” Martin said.

Martin argued that exploring different cultures could be an avenue for personal spiritual growth as well.

Students on LU Send trips will also be able to grow in service.

Welch explained that each trip includes service opportunities.

He added that many trips even count for Christian Service credit.

Welch encourages students interested in going on a trip with LU Send to visit the LU Send webpage.

He pointed out that many LU Send announcements are made at Convocation and Campus Community.

Additionally, LU Send will be announcing several trips during Global Focus Week Sept 24-28.
