Flames fans freak out

When the final seconds on the clock ran out, the crowd of more than 45,000 remained silent and stunned, while Lynchburg, Virginia, erupted into a frenzy.

Students across campus filed into mobs and chanted “L-U” as they celebrated the program’s biggest win in school history.

People drove around campus at 11 p.m. hanging American flags from their vehicles and honking their horns in excitement.

Sidewalks were filled with students making their way toward Williams Stadium while hugging, cheering and proclaiming “This is Liberty.”

Liberty fans rallied together at Williams Stadium after President Jerry Falwell Jr. tweeted “ATTENTION LIBERTY STUDENTS, please join us at WILLIAMS STADIUM at 2:00am and welcome the Flames home. (Approved Late Night)”

A sea of red and blue began to gather on the field around 12 a.m. to celebrate the win with chants, fire-breathing and even an announcement that classes would be cancelled Monday, from Senior Vice President of Spiritual Development David Nasser.

Flames fans continued to applaud the historic victory up until 4:30 a.m.
