Students were able to vote in the Vines Center Tuesday, Nov. 3 even though all candidates were running unopposed.

The Vines Center, which is in the 3rd Ward and 2nd Precinct, showed that less than 10 percent of registered voters cast a vote in the most recent election, according to unofficial results posted on results.elections.virigina.gov. This trend was also seen throughout Lynchburg.

Larry Provost of the Division of Students Affairs said although turnout was below projected estimates, Liberty students are still known to go out to the ballot box and vote.

“All elections during this most recent election were unopposed, and turnout across Lynchburg was rather low,” Provost said. “However, Liberty has traditionally led the way in campus turnout across the country and (is) expected (to make) a very large turnout for the fall 2016 presidential election.”

The summary of Virginia registration and turnout statistics has not yet been posted but can be found at elections.viriginia.gov once the election is certified.
