Volleyball rolling

The Liberty University women’s volleyball program officially started its fall season with a three-game road trip to Athens, Georgia. The Lady Flames played three games in the Hotel Indigo Bulldog Invitational over the weekend posting a 1-2 record.

Liberty started slowly against University of Georgia. Liberty fell to Georgia in three games (25-21, 25-21, 25-20). Sophomore outside hitter Lillie Happel led the team with 11 kills. However, Liberty hit .146 compared to Georgia’s .233.
Kansas led throughout their entire match winning three games (25-21, 25-13, 25-9). Liberty hit a dismal .057 against a strong Kansas defense and suffered 36 errors. Freshman outside hitter Ansley Gebben led Liberty in kills with eight and Courtney Cooper had two aces.

After the loss to Kansas, Liberty bounced back with a dominating win over Florida A&M, winning in all three games (25-15, 26-24, 25-22). Against the Rattlers, a much more polished Flames squad hit .336 and reduced their number of errors. Outside hitter Happel led the team in kills for the second time in the tournament, earning 13 kills with a .256 average.

With a record of 1-2 over the weekend, Liberty placed third in the tournament.
