Although the Liberty men’s soccer team ended their season early with a loss in the first stages of the Big South tournament, they have much to look forward to this season and have told the Liberty Champion that they are hungry for success. With a talent of eight seniors, Liberty men’s soccer will field an experienced and more seasoned squad, along with fresh talent who all have depth and skill in every position.

Among the returning players is Darren Amoo, the lead scorer for the Big South region and a player ranked sixth in the nation in goal-scoring for two seasons straight. The forward boasts a record of 30 goals in 40 games during the three seasons that he has played for the men’s soccer team, and has already matched Craig Bell and Marshall Worthington in being sixth place for Liberty’s career goals. His exploits last season include scoring 12 goals in 16 games including two game winning scores, breaking the Osborne Stadium record for most goals scored in a game with four tallies, being named to the Sculley Memorial All-Tournament team and earning the Big South Presidential Honor roll status for the third time in his career.
“Darren Amoo just might be the hardest working player in the Big South,” team-captain Christopher Phillips said. “Darren is a great player who brings a (different) dynamic and flair to our teams offense that will be the enemy of our great player who brings a (different) dynamic and flair to our teams offense that will be the enemy of our opponents all season.”

He also added that Darren brings versatility to the frontline, as shooting well with both feet is a menace to the opposing team’s defense with his pace and strength.

Darren Amoo is a native of Ghana. He attended Presbyterian Boys Secondary School in Legon, Ghana, where he was named talent of the year during his sophomore year. He was also named sportsman of the year in his junior year.

Amoo will be framed with teammates like Phillip Aseweh, who was included in the All-Big South Team last season, Junior Amaya, who has represented the United states at the U-17 level, and team captain Chris Phillips, who has represented the Liberty men’s soccer Team for the last 42 consecutive games.

The men’s soccer team is coached by Jeff Alder, who has led the team to their first Big South Championship title in the history of Liberty University.
