Student Conference Awards

CRS recommends submission of applications at least 2 months prior to when funds are needed due to the necessary administrative review at numerous levels and associated processes.

Purpose

Supports travel expenses for residential students to attend an external academic event (e.g., a conference, symposium, or exhibition). Students awarded funding must complete travel to the external event. The approved award will have a threshold of up to $2,000 per student.

Read the criteria below and submit an application form. Applications will be reviewed until all funds are fully expended.

  • The residential student(s) must be currently enrolled at Liberty at the time of the external event.
  • The residential student must have a faculty sponsor.
  • The residential student should be in good academic standing and student conduct standing.
  • If possible, travel dates should take place within the Fiscal Year that the award is given.
  • The student(s) will be asked to:
    • Submit a list of the specific workshop(s)/seminar(s)/keynote speaker(s) at the event that they intend to attend (Name of Session, Title of Session, Date/Time of session)
    • Describe an action plan to incorporate the knowledge and skills gained at the event
    • Articulate how the proposed opportunity will assist their competitive advantage in pursuing career opportunities
    • Articulate how the proposed event attendance will help the student(s) impact society and their field
  • An itemized budget (please see disclaimer)

Follow-Up Expectations

The student(s) receiving this award will need to submit a final report within four weeks of the event. This report will need to include a reflective essay (please see below for content for the essay) describing his/her experience at the event and three photos from the event. At least one of the photos should include an image of the student (i.e. selfies are acceptable) at the conference venue. Please include the name and dates of the conference, home department, award funding amount, award expended amount.

Reflection Essay

Your essay should be approximately 500 words and address the following points:

  • What knowledge and skills did you gain from the presentation experience and conference events? How might you incorporate them into your future endeavors?
  • How has this experience influenced your understanding of the academic discipline and profession and contributed to potential future academic and professional opportunities?
