Welcome Week for Parents
Welcome to the Liberty Family
Aug. 16-21, 2023
Welcome week is a time of transition for both students and parents. For many, leaving your child at college can be a time of great anxiety. You may be experiencing a sense of loss or sadness. Or, you may be excited to finally drop off your child at college. Whatever you may be experiencing, here are a few helpful tips to help you navigate Welcome Week as a parent.
- Parents are permitted to help students move into their residence halls. Just be sure to talk with your student about their expectations as they may want to do this on their own.
- Feeling sad is normal. Remember, this is an exciting time in your child’s life. You raised them to be able to leave the nest and go out into the world. The longer you stay, the harder it will be for both of you to say goodbye.
- Avoid the temptation to linger. We encourage you to make plans with your child to allow for a smooth transition into Liberty. They need the time and opportunity to make friends! Encourage them to attend the on-campus activities and events so they can begin making connections at their new home away from home. Our research shows that students who connect with each other and the university are far more likely to continue to Commencement.
- We love when parents come to visit. We suggest a visit after about three weeks so that your child has time to adjust to being a college student.

You Are Invited
Join us at our Parent and Family Session on Wednesday and Thursday, August 16 & 17, from 3-4 p.m. located in the Center for Music and the Worship Arts, Concert Hall. Students’ family members and guardians are welcome. The session will be recorded and made available for viewing on our webpage Office Events, as well as Facebook @LibertyUFamily (a Facebook account is not required for viewing content posted by Parent and Family Connections).
You are welcome to attend any events during Welcome Week.
Before You Get to Campus
Make sure that your student has completed the following items before arriving on campus:
- Complete Financial Check-In
- Complete Class Registration
- Choose a Housing Assignment
- Review The Liberty Way
- Complete the Student Health Form
- Complete the Flames Pass Application
