Liberty University's gymnastics team had their final tuneup in Chapel Hill, N.C. on March 31 before heading to nationals this month. Buoyed by first-place finishes from Steve Lucia and David Tighe on the men's side and Rachel Steele for the women, Liberty was able to take first place in both team competitions, giving a boost of confidence for both before they head to Utah April 19-22.

Tighe, a senior from Boise, Idaho, took first in the vault and first in the all-around competition, while Lucia took first in the floor exercise and finished second in the all-around.

Rachel Steele took first place on the uneven bars on the way to a second-place finish in the all-around. The senior from Mechanicsburg, Pa., also placed fourth in the vault and third in the floor exercise.

Junior Jill Wipperman finished second on the balance beam and placed third in the all-around.

Freshman Alyssa Frost finished second on the uneven bars and placed fourth in the all-around.
