Liberty University's ACHA Division I men's hockey team, the two-time defending Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL) regular-season champion, will open its 2019-20 season Sept. 20 against Duquesne (Pa.) University at the LaHaye Ice Center.

The Flames will begin ESCHL play Oct. 11-12 at Rhode Island before hosting Syracuse the following weekend in a rematch of the ESCHL Tournament final won by the Orange in overtime, ending Liberty's two-year reign as tournament champs.

Liberty will play non-conference home-and-away series against Adrian and Alabama, including regular-season-ending home dates with the Bulldogs and Frozen Tide on Feb. 21-22 and Feb. 28-29, respectively.

"I really believe our schedule is a good one and it will give us a good gauge of where we are by the end of the year," Flames Head Coach Handy said. "Ohio, Alabama, and Adrian will all be in the mix for the national tournament so it will be big to have them on there for our strength of schedule."

Liberty will entertain Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Sept. 26-27, concluding with the semester's first of two "Midnight Mayhem" matchups. The second midnight game is set for Nov. 8 against Ohio.

The Flames will conclude fall semester action Dec. 6-7 at home against Slippery Rock before hosting Delaware, Jan. 17-18, to start the spring semester. Over Christmas Break, the team will travel to Helsinki, Finland, for a trip organized by LU Send from Jan. 2-11.

"To be together on a trip is a great opportunity to bond, to grow as a team, and to give guys a real opportunity to use their faith as a platform to make a difference," Handy said.

West Chester (Pa.) will again host the March 6-8 ESCHL Tournament, the final event before the March 20-25 ACHA National Championships, which return to Frisco, Texas.

"Our goals are the same every year," Handy said. "We want to win the regular season title and the conference tournament and we want to win a national championship."

A total of 21 of Liberty's 35-game schedule will be played at home.
