Bianco wins, three other LU triathletes in top 10 at Lake Anna

Liberty University men's triathlon graduate student Giovanni Bianco was the overall winner out of 215 men's competitors in the Giant Acorn Olympic-distance race held Sept. 23 at Lake Anna State Park.
Bianco, who grew up cycling in Italy, posted the fastest time in the 40-kilometer cycling stage and won with an overall time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, 7 seconds after factoring in his 1.5-kilometer swim (21:50) and second-fastest 10K run (35:42) times.
Christian Brasher, a freshman from Texas, placed fifth overall in 2:05:53 on the strength of his fourth-fastest swim time (21:10). His time of 1:05:20 on the bike was the 13th fastest in the field and he clocked the eighth-fastest run time (37:37).
Maxwell Galbraith, a freshman from near Richmond, Va., rounded out the Flames' trio of competitors, finishing eighth in 2:08:01. He got faster as the race progressed, capped by his fourth-fastest 10K run time of 36:23.

In the women's Olympic-distance race, Heather Ziebart, a junior from Forest, was ninth overall out of 146 women's finishers in 2:31:45, including the eighth-fastest time in the 40K cycling stage (1:14:23).
Senior Sarah Parker (45th in 2:55:59) and Rachel Fulford (46th in 2:55:59) practically tied for second place among the Lady Flames with Carrington Erquiaga (49th in 2:57:21) and Chloe Bechtel (64th in 3:04:04) a close fourth and fifth.

Liberty men's and women's Head Coach Heather Gollnick, who started on Monday, will bring seven triathletes — the same three men and Ziebart, Erquiaga, Parker, and senior Shannon Wade on the women's side — to Saturday's Major League Triathlon (MLT) draft-legal Super Sprint and Sunday's Tri the Trump race held at Trump National Golf Club near Charlotte, N.C.
