Flames exit Chapel Hill tournament after loss to Duke

The Liberty Flames men's volleyball team finished seventh out of 13 teams Saturday, after falling to Duke University in three sets during the first round of tournament play at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
The Flames began the tournament with a loss to North Carolina State in straight sets, 16-25 and 17-25. Jamie Stedjan led Liberty in the match with five kills on 12 attempts for a .333 kill percentage and three digs.
Virginia Commonwealth University took down Liberty in straight sets in the Flames' next matchup. The Rams took the first frame 25-20 and narrowly held off Liberty in the second, 27-25.
A two-set sweep of the host team highlighted the Flames' play Saturday, as the Tar Heels lost in straight sets to Liberty 25-16 and 25-20. Sam Eisbrenner led the Flames with three of eight kills (.375) and three blocks, and Josiah Williams added four digs and one ace.
Liberty faced the Blue Devils in the opening round of tournament play, losing the first set 21-25. The Flames battled back in the second set, winning 25-20 and forcing a deciding third set, which Duke took 15-13.
The Flames travel next for a tournament at N.C. State Nov. 17. Play begins at 9 a.m.
