Lady Flames win first regular-season IHSA Region 4 show
September 24, 2016 | Richmond, Va.
Liberty University's women's Hunter Seat equestrian team celebrated its first Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) team victory Saturday at the University of Richmond, paced by a blue ribbon performance from sophomore Zoe Leppke. The Lady Flames followed up last week's outstanding showing at the Tournament of Champions Preseason Classic with its first regular-season competition of the fall semester by moving into the season points lead for IHSA Region 4. This is Liberty's first season competing in Region 4.
After an extremely competitive day of riding, Liberty scored 35 points, its highest total to date, and edged Richmond (33 points) and defending champion Mary Washington (31) for the team title.
Leppke was awarded "Reserve High Point" winner for her first- and second-place finishes in her two classes of competition.
The Hunter Seat team now has three weekends off before traveling to three consecutive weekend shows at VCU (Oct. 22 in Richmond), William & Mary (Oct. 29 in Williamsburg), and Christopher Newport University (Nov. 5 in Newport News).
