Keepers of the Flame: Tae kwon do artist Tykeyah Henderson test test test test

On this segment of Keepers of the Flame, Tykeyah Henderson, a rising senior member of Liberty University's women tae kwon do team shares her favorite Scripture verse, Exodus 14:14: "The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still."

That is a particularly appropriate verse to apply to her sport, but she reflects on it on a daily basis with any trial she must endure.

During her sophomore season, Henderson lost her father, a former boxer and her first coach, after a short bout with cancer. Before he died, she promised him she would bring home a gold medal at the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association (NCTA) championships at the University of Delaware in early April, which she did, winning the heavyweight yellow belt division.

"I do get anxious with a lot of things I'm not supposed to be anxious about," Henderson said. "But when I read that verse, it brings me such comfort, to just know God is with me through anything, whether I'm fighting or dealing with schoolwork. It just shows that God's just so sovereign over all things."
