Keepers of the Flame: Men's hockey defenseman Pete Shantz
May 19, 2016 | Lynchburg, Va.
On this week's segment of "Keepers of the Flame," Liberty University ACHA Division I men's hockey graduate defenseman Peter Shantz shares his favorite Scripture passage from Proverbs 3:5-8: "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all of your ways, acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord and turn away from all evil. This will bring healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones."
The two-time provincial junior champion and defensive player of the year from Hamilton, Ontario, was awarded ACHA Academic All-America honors for the second straight season this year. However, he admits trying to take control of matters at times rather than trusting in God for all things.
"For me personally, I want to be in control of everything and watch over everything," Shantz said. "I have a tough time disconnecting with things and just putting it in God's hands and trusting in Him. So for me that's something I always need to reflect on, and just have the faith to put it in His hands and know that all things will work together for good."
