For the second time this season, Liberty University's figure skating team set a new school record for most points at a United States Figure Skating (USFS) Intercollegiate Eastern Sectionals competition, hosted by SUNY Geneseo, Saturday and Sunday at Genesee Valley Ice Rink.
The Lady Flames scored 48 points to place fifth overall, behind only Delaware (137), which locked up the team sectional championship, Boston (125), Dartmouth (106), and Sacred Heart (54).
"Graduating seniors Emily Boyles, Maria DeFosse, and Laura Gordon all skated strong programs and brought home medals from their final competition," Lady Flames Head Coach Jamie Swyers said. "It was a great way to end the season."
Liberty was led by freshman Sibylle Harter's first-place finishes in the Intermediate Short Program and Group D of the Juvenile Ladies Program.
In the Pre-Juvenile competition, Gordon placed second in Group B before DeFosse and junior Rebekah Hicks placed second and third, respectively, in Group C.
Senior Anna Stegner also came in second place in Group A of her Preliminary competition before Boyles placed third in Group B.
Sophomore Cheyenne Peterson finished third in the Novice Long Program and fourth in the Novice Short Program. In Group C of the Juvenile Ladies Program, freshman Megan Gonzalez finished third after freshman Katherine Thacker took fourth in Group B.
Liberty's Low Team Maneuvers trio of Hicks, Gordan, and Gonzalez also placed third.
