Keepers of the Flame: Men's lacrosse middie Brett Bernardo
January 19, 2016 | Lynchburg, Va.
On this week's segment of "Keepers of the Flame," Liberty University men's lacrosse player Brett Bernardo explains how his favorite scripture passage, Proverbs 3:5-6, has been foundational in his faith.
It reads: "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all of your ways, acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight."
"It's a verse that gives me peace and it's God saying, ‘Trust in Me, trust in the Lord,'" Bernardo said. "Just give it to God, and when you do that it relieves everything. For every time that I've done that, my paths have always been led straight and even in the times when I've doubted, He's still come up faithful."
Bernardo, a senior midfielder from Clifton Park, N.Y., transferred to Liberty, where he is studying marketing in the School of Business, after playing as a freshman and redshirting his sophomore season at Marist College, an NCAA Division I program. After being named to the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference All-Tournament team as a redshirt sophomore for the Flames, he was named an MCLA first-team All-American with 69 points (45 goals and 24 assists) this past spring.
