DI women's hockey Head Coach Lowes reflects, looks ahead
December 18, 2017 | Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty University Club Sports Video Coordinator Gabe Henderson recently caught up with Lady Flames ACHA Division I women's hockey first-year Head Coach Chris Lowes to recap the fall semester and look ahead to the road to the March 14-18 National Championships in Columbus, Ohio, for the latest edition of the Coaches' Club.
Liberty remains atop the ACHA DI national rankings heading into the Christmas break, posting a perfect 17-0 record against league competition (19-2 overall).
"We have 24 players who have bought into what we're trying to do," Lowes said. "There's been some hurdles and obstacles and we've just found a way. When you look at 19-0 and we've played some of the top teams in the country, to get through this stretch perfect so far is a lot of credit to them."
He said as much as they have improved through game competition, playing 15 of their past 19 games away from the LaHaye Ice Center, the Lady Flames have sharpened themselves in practices.
"Our girls do a good job of motivating themselves," Lowes said. "There's going to be a lot of weeks where we want our toughest competition to be Tuesday through Thursday in practice, just battling hard and making each other better."
Liberty opens its spring semester with a rare home series, Jan. 12-13 against No. 3 Michigan State.
