Dr. Adams served as the Texas Counseling Association President (2008-2011) and continues to be an active member of the Texas Counseling Association and several other professional counseling organizations. She has been awarded various honors by several universities and selected as “Hero of the Year” for Denton County Medical Reserve Corp for her numerous years of involvement in helping shape crisis intervention work from its organization.
In addition to being an editorial reviewer for a national peer-reviewed journal, Dr. Adams is a frequent presenter for local, state, national, and international audiences. She has also been involved with the Loss Crisis Team in Denton County, Texas. This organization works with families that are touched by suicide.
Dr. Adams has a limited private practice working with adults and couples. Her specializations are grief, bereavement, crisis, and trauma. She has a strong presence in the field of grief, crisis and mentoring students and new professionals.
Dr. Adams’ research interests include grief and bereavement with a significant focus on suicide’s impact on the family and the trauma this can create for the significant circle of loved ones.
