Dr. Birtles has served as a school counselor, professional counselor, and clinical supervisor in myriad mental health settings. She has conducted research on the concept of posttraumatic growth and presented at various local, regional, and national conferences. Her teaching and research interests include crisis and trauma counseling, posttraumatic growth, community crisis and trauma, career counseling, and military family transitions.
