Parent E-Newsletter | August 2017

A Fresh Start! A New Year!

The Parent Family Connections Office exists to help parents stay connected to Liberty University and all the resources that are available for their families.  We provide you with important and helpful information on our page that can help you navigate this stage of parenting.

We also believe in the power of prayer and invite you to send your prayer requests to us at  parentspray@liberty.edu, and we will pray for you and your family.

We would love to have you join us for the Parent Family Weekend November 3-5.  Registration will be opening during the month of August.  If you do not have hotel accommodations yet, please hurry as space is filling fast!

We encourage you to check out the FAQ area on our webpage where you will find answers to common questions you may have and to also review the “The Liberty Way” with your student.

We would also like to introduce our new Parent Advocate, Timi Plyter, a seasoned veteran of 20 years at LU who was also a Liberty parent.  She will be more than willing to listen to you and connect you with the offices you may need.

Student Advocate Office

The Fall Semester is almost underway!  We pray you had a great time with your students this summer.

Welcome Week for new and transfer students begins August 23rd

This is a great time to review the 2017-18 Academic Calendar which outlines the academic schedule for this school year.

We would especially like to make sure you are aware of the August 28th – September 1st Add/Drop Period. During this time your student can re-arrange their schedule without penalty. Please encourage them to make sure they register for 12-18 credit hours by September 1st at 4:00 p.m.  Be aware that if your student decides to drop a class after September 1st, they will receive a “W” for a grade and will not be refunded the tuition for that class.  We would encourage you to read the Academic Policies and Course Catalogs to better direct your student in their decision-making process.

Educational Funds

We would love to have your student come to one of the five Scholarship Search 101 and Scholarship Search 102 sessions we offer during the semester.  Your student can also apply for the “Scholarship of the Month” or watch a pre-recorded Scholarship Search 101 LiveCast. Lastly, if your student needs some extra funds, have them check out the Lending a Hand to get connected with local jobs.

We encourage you to reach out to us for any help you may need and we would be more than happy to help you!

Dining Services

It’s amazing how quickly summer comes and goes! However, we’ve been hard at work this summer cooking up new and exciting things for our students in the Fall. Here’s a list of just a few:

  1. Gluten-Friendly Swipe Options at Almost Every Location On Campus! Yup, that’s right! For student’s on the Gluten Intolerant Options (G.I.O.) Program, they get Gluten-Free items at no additional charge to them. For those not on the program, it's just a minimal additional fee to get gluten-free.
  2. Eco-Friendly Products Being Used On Campus. We’ve partnered with Eco-Products, a company that specializes in developing sustainably sourced cups and plates. These products, after being recycled, will go to a landfill off site and will break down into rich soil within 180 days or less! Then, that soil gets shipped right back here to Liberty University to use for the flower beds. It’s full cycle recycling!
  3. New Meal Plan Option for 2nd Semester Juniors & Seniors! Now, 2nd-semester juniors and seniors can choose to be on a 14 Swipe Plan. To learn more, please visit LibertyDining.com and click on “Dining Plans”.
  4. Chick-Fil-A is Growing! Our Chick-Fil-A in the Tilley Student Center is expanding and will now include breakfast! It’s a perfect option for those on a PLUS+ Plan. Not on a PLUS+ Plan though? That’s alright, we still take all other forms of tender!

In addition to these updates, your student’s returning is right around the corner and now is the perfect time to be thinking about which meal plan they are going to be on. Head to the Dining Plans tab on our website to learn all about what plans we offer.

While this is just a few things we’re updating, stay connected with us this Fall by following us on social media- Facebook/Instagram/Twitter: @LibertyDining or check out our website, www.LibertyDining.com.

ID and Campus Services

There are only a few weeks left before your student comes to campus, which means life has gotten very busy for you and your student. Let ID & Campus Services help you check a few key things off your to-do list.

Flames Pass

The Flames Pass is the official ID card of Liberty University and your students key to campus! Having a Flames Pass before arriving on campus can make settling in to campus life a little easier. Your student can request their Flames Pass online and have their student ID mailed home or request to pick it up when they arrive on campus.

Bank Mobile

Your student may have received a green envelope in the mail from BankMobile that can cause a bit of confusion. Liberty University works with BankMobile to release refunds, stipends and per diems to students. If your student will travel with the university or has a credit balance on their student account, they can use the personal code that came in the green welcome packet to choose how they would like to receive any funds. They have the option to have any funds sent via paper check, direct deposited into a personal account or open a BankMobile account. If you have any questions, please contact us and we will be happy assist you.

Flames Cash

Safety and security, as a parent, is always your first priority. With Flames Cash your student will always have a safe, secure and convenient way to purchase the things they need. Flames Cash can be used for things like books, laundry, prescriptions, gas and so much more. By adding a little extra Flames Cash through Financial Check-In or online, your students will be ready to start the school year off right.

Check out the ID & Campus Services site for more information about the services we provide.

LU Send

LU Send is Liberty University’s centralized hub of support for student travel. Our department, working under the oversight of the Office of Spiritual Development, works closely with Faculty to develop dynamic short-term travel experiences. Possessing high standards of academic enrichment, cultural immersion, and service engagement, each trip offers a unique blend of opportunities that provide a holistic experience. While there are financial costs and time commitments associated, these experiences are sure to be one of the most valuable components of your student’s college experience. Additionally, a great benefit of these trips is the opportunity they provide to earn course credit in conjunction with each trip, thereby completing one more part of that Degree Completion Plan. At the end of the day, our vision is that your student would walk away with a greater perspective and passion as a global citizen, thereby contributing to their growth as a Champion for Christ!

For more information about upcoming opportunities for ’17 – ’18, visit our LU Send page, call 434-592-6455, or stop by our office in Green Hall 2500!
