Shutdown FAQ's for Military Students

Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions in the event of a government shutdown.

Will TA cover my balance/current classes?

  • If you have received a TA authorization for funding, the military will pay for the amount approved once the government shutdown ends. The TA authorization is a promise of payment and it will be honored by the military once the government resumes operation.

  • If TA has not been approved, and you have passed the deadline to request your funding, TA will not be approved. For those who cannot get TA funding, GI Bill® eligible students can utilize funding from the VA, which can be certified up to a year prior, but it will not be paid out until the government shutdown is over.

Will the VA continue to issue payment?

  • It is not clear the impact the government shutdown will have on Department of Veterans Affairs benefits.
  • Students should call 1-888-442-4551 for more information.
  • Payments already in process (authorized) should continue to be issued through the end of the month, and should resume once the government shutdown ends.

Where can I receive updates on other types of federal aid that I am using?
