Research Week

Build knowledge and skills in research and scholarship through Research Week at Liberty University. Research Week is conducted annually and is open to all disciplines. It is sponsored by The Graduate School, the Center for Research and Scholarship, and the Jerry Falwell Library.

Categories for Research (Oral or Poster Presentation Format)
 

  1. Basic: Identify and develop a fundamental research question regarding the nature of your field of study.
  2. Applied: Employ quantitative, qualitative, or mixed research designs to answer a research question.
  3. Theoretical Proposal: Develop new frameworks for future research.
  4. Textual or Investigative: Critically engage texts, artifacts, or documents to prove a thesis, association, pattern, relationship, or previously unobserved significance. 
  5. Creative and Artistic: Discover and critically evaluate source material in artistic projects for a public audience. 

 

 


Overview of 2017 Research Week

Research Week 2017 was held April 10-14 in the Jerry Falwell Library. The keynote address was given by Dr. Harold Koenig, Director of the Center for Spirituality, Theology, and Health at Duke University Medical Center. 

Participants

  • Over 150 initial applications
  • 126 final presentations (47 posters, 79 oral)
  • 14 schools and colleges represented and 54 programs of study
    • 52 presentations from the School of Health Sciences — most represented school or college
    • 27 presentations from the College of Arts & Sciences — second most represented school or college
    • 14 presentations from the B.S. in Biomedical Sciences — most represented program of study
  • 800+ faculty and students attended the oral presentations

Award Winners

Presentations were judged by 28 volunteer faculty judges. Winners represented 12 schools and colleges and 41 programs of study 

  • 18 first place honors
    • 10 Undergraduate, 8 Graduate 
  • 16 second place honors
    • 9 Undergraduate, 7 Graduate 
  • 15 third place honors
    • 9 Undergraduate, 6 Graduate
  • 4 Liberty Online students won awards
